While many people may not think of summer fun activities as homes and decorating inspirations, they totally are. From the hot days to the lazy days of summer, I like to come home and cool off in the house I’m working on.
After the dust settles, and the paint fumes are gone from the home, it’s time to make the house come alive. With a little creativity, I always create a sense of comfort by using home decor accessories. I create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, keeping the home from feeling too contemporary.
And don’t you worry, I take summer leisure to another level by filling my home with a little more whimsy and lots of fun. It’s the perfect time to get into your summer reading, do some art projects, and make some boozy popsicles. All of these little projects bring so much joy to the house, I have no problem filling every available space with the fun and whimsy of summer.
Mint Julep Wall Hanging
For my lounging poolside needs this year, I plan on using one of my old roman shades. I’ve made it into a mint julep inspired wall hanging.
This simple and colourful item brings back warm memories of spending summer days lounging by the pool. The mint julep is surrounded by a jungle of stems and leaves in red, green, and yellow. A flamingo and a crown add just the right amount of whimsy and flutter of colour to a poolside space. A few champagne glasses are included as well to add a little flair to an already green space.
Tile Key Pendant Lamp
In my dining room, I plan on replacing the standard dining room chandelier with an etched glass lamp. I’m hoping to pare down the look of the chandelier by mixing in a few glass key pendants throughout the dining room. It will help add an instant pop of fun to an already fun space.
For the key pendants, I found a great source for glass pendants by World Market. The pendants in this set are not a match for the lamps, but for a dollar you can’t go wrong. Each key pendant comes with a bottle stopper and a glass globe. The gold key pendant in the middle of the set provides the focal point for the table, setting the tone for my summer eating habits.
Cupcake Love
I’m quite the cake fiend, so one of the items I will be hanging on my wall this year will be a small decorative cake. I found a display above a cupcake tin, and the cake portion is not covered up by anything, but we won’t discuss that.
I hope you find these projects to be creative and fun ways to bring in the spirit of summer into your homes. They are just a few ways I’m making the most of my summer and enjoying the last bit of my time home.
